We have a 3-year postdoctoral application currently open (deadline 23rd October 2024, apply here) within the NFR funded LASCHAMPS-UV project, which aims to investigate whether surface UV-B radiation increased during the Laschamps Geomagnetic Excursion, 42-41k years before present. An excellent video which explains the context of the project, made by researchers at the University of Sydney, can be found here. Our goal is use chemical compounds in pollen to test whether UV-B radiation was as high as has recently been proposed, with large implications for understanding how plants and animals have responded to environmental crises in the past.
We also aim to recruit masters and BIO299 students for this project for work done in 2025 and 2026. Contact Alistair.seddon@uib.no for more details.
